• Your photo and caption should match: These two elements should complement each other. The right tone makes it all happen. For example, a funny picture with a friend deserves a witty tone. Very poetic, I know. However, the second example paints a much better picture.

Instead, use this grammatical structure: subject + verb + object. For example, “I devoured the delicious pizza”. Using the active voice is more engaging and draws the reader in.
• Keep it short: Instagram users aren’t on the social network to read a novel. Generally, the shorter the captions, the better. However, there are exceptions. If you’re going for a caption that hits all the senses (like I did above), you could go for a long one. Just be mindful and go for a longer caption when you really want to leave an impact.
